Egress Vs. Non-Egress Windows
Two configurations help classify these lower-level windows that are typically used for basements. Egress window wells need to meet emergency escape and safety regulations in order for the spaces to be habitable. If the windows feature an unhindered exit and can open wide during an emergency, they will be classified as an egress window. These window wells are typically larger than non-egress window wells, providing more light for the basement or slightly underground areas, reducing the dark and cramped feeling that comes with lower levels.
Non-egress windows or window wells are best used for areas or rooms where emergency exit regulations are not required. Workshops, storage areas, and crawlspaces do not need egress window wells. A non-egress window well helps to maximize outdoor space while providing soil retention and sleek finish options found with other window systems.
Utilizing Window Wells And Bucks

A window buck is essentially a mold or frame that is placed while the foundation is being poured. This concrete surrounds the buck, creating an open space for the window well to be attached later.
Window wells need to be anchored into cured concrete, but with window bucks, you can avoid drilling and anchoring instead, mounting the window well directly into a cast-in-place buck frame. Our window bucks feature built-in screws so builders can avoid unnecessary drilling into the foundation. Achieving dry and safe basement windows is best accomplished with this combo.

- Optimized Drainage Alignment: The bottom of our window wells is designed to rest cleanly on the exterior gravel layer, helping rainwater and snow to move away from the window and basement.
Galvanic Corrosion Prevention During Installation
Modern concrete foundations for all builds are required to have structural reinforcement networks, often made of rebar. These reinforcements are directly tied to the home’s electrical grounding circuit. Our window well installers are aware that anchors and fasteners can not make contact with the rebar in order to maintain a non-conductive boundary that doesn’t cause galvanic corrosion.
